Profile for Paul L Grundy
BM(Hons) MD FRCS(SN)

I'm the lead consultant neurosurgeon for adult neuro-oncology (brain tumours) and my elective neurosurgical practice is dedicated to the managment of this patient population.

I qualified from Southampton University Medical School in 1992 and was awarded my Bachelor of Medicine degree with Honours and Distinction in Medical Sciences. Thereafter, I undertook a general surgical SHO rotation in Oxford before entering full-time neurosurgical positions at Frenchay Hospital, Bristol in 1996 after completing the FRCS(Eng) examinations.

In 1998 I was appointed Specialist Registrar in Neurosurgery in Bristol and passed the specialty board examinations in Neurosurgery (FRCS(SN)) in 2004. During my time in Bristol I took two years out for a full-time research position sponsored by the Royal College of Surgeons and PPP Healthcare and was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) by Bristol University for this work in 2003. My interests in teaching neurosurgery were reinforced by the completion of a Certificate in Medical Education at Bristol University in 2004. My neurosurgical training was then completed with a fellowship working with Professor Andrew Kaye in Melbourne, an internationally renowned leader in the field of brain tumours, until my appointment as consultant neurosurgeon in Southampton in 2005.

I now lead and coordinate the neuro-oncology service for Wessex in my role as SUHT Lead Clinician for the Neuro-oncology Multidisciplinary Team and lead neurosurgical oncologist. I'm also chairing the Central South Coast Cancer Network Brain and CNS Tumours working group, which is aiming to fully implement the Improving Outcomes Guidance recently published by NICE.

I live in the New Forest with my wife, Kate, and two young children, Callum & MIllie. We enjoy walking our two dogs Freddie (a Hungarian Vizsla) and Jack (a Weimaraner) and I enjoy sports, keeping fit and motorsports.
